Nebraskans take pride in our vibrant cities, thriving rural communities, and rich history. From the bustling streets of Lincoln and Omaha—home to world-class universities, medical facilities, and growing industries—to small towns and family farms that drive our economy, Nebraska’s transportation system connects us all.
Through eight field districts, the NDOT maintains and improves the state’s transportation network - including highways, bridges, and airports - year-round, while preserving the billions of dollars Nebraskans have invested. Our mission - to deliver a safe, reliable, and efficient transportation system that moves people and goods across the state. Whether traveling along the busy I-80 corridor—critical for truck drivers—or scenic byways, our infrastructure facilitates daily life, fosters economic growth, and welcomes explorers eager to discover what Nebraska has to offer.
Our highways also support a $25 billion agricultural industry, ensuring farm products reach processing plants and global markets. Nearly $2.5 billion in exports, including agricultural and industrial goods, rely on Nebraska’s infrastructure annually. Since its founding in 1950, the NDOT (formerly the Dept. of Roads) has evolved to meet Nebraska's transportation needs.
Today, we manage nearly 10,000 miles of public roads, maintain over 3,500 bridges, and support 78 public-use airports and 59 rural transit systems. Our work ensures Nebraskans—whether commuting, hauling goods, or visiting family—can travel safely and efficiently.
