We need help naming 16 snowplows in the Nebraska Department of Transportation’s fleet. Now through October 3, students in grades K–6 can submit their most imaginative, silly, or clever names for a chance to see their idea featured on one of NDOT’s 600 snowplows—trackable in real time at 511.nebraska.gov. Two winners will be selected from each of NDOT’s eight Districts. View the district map here.
IT’S ABOUT SAFETY
This fun competition is also a way to educate students (and future drivers!) about winter safety and snowplow drivers – who play a vital role in keeping Nebraska roads safe during the winter months. Snowplow operators keep our roads clear and motorists safe. They also help ensure that emergency vehicles can get to those who need their services. NDOT's snowplow drivers often work long shifts in challenging conditions, and we want students to better understand this essential work while also learning how to stay safe around snowplows. Check out our classroom resources to the right.
