About the Project

The Nebraska Department of Transportation (NDOT) is resurfacing with asphalt, repairing bridges, and making guardrail improvements on approximately 3.05 miles of Interstate 129 (I-129) in Dakota County. Sign trusses overhead are to be replaced as well. The project is currently underway and could be completed as soon as winter of 2023.

Project Updates

 

February 24, 2023

Weather permitting, beginning February 28, overhead signs will be installed on I-129. Short-term nighttime closures and detours will be required during installation.

All closures will occur no earlier than 8:00 PM each night and last for approximately three (3) hours.

  • Tuesday, February 28: Eastbound I-129  will be closed. Detoured traffic will be routed south on
    Hwy 110 to Hwy 35, then east to Hwy 77.
  • Wednesday, March 1: Westbound I-129 will be closed at Dakota Ave. Detoured traffic will be
    routed north on I-129 to Sioux City, then south on Hwy 77.
  • Thursday, March 2: Eastbound lanes of I-129 will be closed. Detoured traffic will be routed south
    on Hwy 110 to Hwy 35, then east to Hwy 77.
  • Monday, March 6: Northbound lanes of Hwy 77 will be closed at Atokad. Detoured traffic will be
    routed west on Hwy 35 north on Hwy 110, then east or west on Hwy 20/I-129.

Motorists are reminded to drive cautiously in and near work zones, to buckle up, and to put phones down.​

 

​December 29, 2022

Weather permitting, on Tuesday, January 3, traffic on the US-77 southbound bridge over I-129 will be moved to the inside lane while work is completed on the outside lane. Motorists are reminded to drive cautiously in and near work zones, to buckle up, and to put phones down.​

 

October 26, 2022 

Weather permitting, beginning Wednesday, October 26, paving work will occur on the on and off ramps at Kingsbury Interchange and Dakota Avenue. Message boards will be placed in advance at each location. Lanes will close intermittently; drivers should plan to use an alternate route. The paving work will take approximately two (2) weeks. Motorists are reminded to drive cautiously in and near work zones, to buckle up, and to put phones down.

 

​September 2, 2022

Weather permitting, beginning September 12, work will begin on the US-77 bridges as well as the bridges over Lake Avenue. Work on these bridges will begin on the inside lanes with traffic moved to the outside lanes. During this work,  all four loops on Kingsbury interchange and the US-77 southbound to I-129 westbound ramp will be closed. Designated detours will be provided. Motorists are reminded to drive cautiously in and near work zones, to buckle up, and to put phones down.

 

June 9, 2022

Weather permitting, on June 16, traffic will be moved to the inside lanes. The outside lanes will be closed for further repairs on the bridges over the railroad tracks. The eastbound off ramp to Dakota Avenue southbound will be closed; traffic should utilize the current detour in place. Work has also begun to pour the bases for the new overhead signs. This work is anticipated to be complete in 4-6 weeks. Motorists are reminded to drive cautiously in and near work zones, to buckle up, and to put phones down.

 

​February 25, 2022

Weather permitting, on or about March 3, the I-129 bridge over Dakota Avenue (westbound) will be re-opened to two lanes. The westbound Dry Lake Bridge lane closure will be extended to the east to encompass the westbound Railroad Bridge. Traffic will be restricted to the inside lane while work continues in the outside lane. As a result, the on-ramp from Dakota Avenue to westbound I-129 will be closed and a detour will be in place. Dakota Avenue traffic traveling west, will detour into Iowa, using the loop or the ramp from Dakota Avenue, then travel east to the I-29/I-129 junction loops and then back to I-129. Motorists are reminded to drive cautiously in and near work zones, to buckle up, and to put phones down.

 

October 25, 2021

Weather permitting, the evening of November 1, 2021, an overhead sign structure will be erected in the southbound lanes of Highway 77 at approximately mile marker 185.85. Highway 77 southbound will be closed at the intersection of South Ridge Drive/Futures Drive. The westbound ramp from Highway 77 will also be closed. Traffic will be detoured west on 29th Street (Old Highway 20) to the intersection of Highway 20 by Martin Airfield. Traffic can then proceed west on Highway 20, east on Highway 20/ I-129 or east on Highway 20 and then south on Highway 75. The affected section of highway will be closed for approximately three hours, overnight, when traffic volumes are low. Motorists are reminded to drive cautiously in and near work zones, to buckle up, and to put phones down.

 

September 28, 2021

Weather permitting, during the week of October 4, traffic on the westbound Dakota Avenue bridge will be switched to the inside lane to allow for the beginning of phase 2 work. Work is also starting on the Dry Lake eastbound bridge. Motorists are reminded to drive cautiously in and near work zones, to buckle up, and to put phones down.

 

July 22, 2021

Avenue C on I-129 will be opening later today. Work is currently underway on the Dakota Avenue bridges. Work on the project will continue in phases until 2023. Motorists are reminded to drive cautiously in and near work zones, to buckle up, and to put phones down.

 

June 21, 2021

Weather permitting, on Thursday, June 24, traffic on Dakota Avenue westbound bridge will be reduced to one lane. The inside lane will be closed, and traffic will travel on the outside lane. Closure is necessary to complete bridge work; anticipated completion is early fall. Motorists are reminded to drive cautiously in and near work zones, to buckle up, and to put phones down.
