NDOT-Supported Conferences & Partner Events

NDOT, in collaboration with statewide and regional partners, hosts and supports a variety of industry meetings, conferences, and workshops throughout the year. These events bring together local agencies, state and federal transportation professionals, consultants, associations, and industry leaders to share knowledge, explore innovation, and strengthen Nebraska’s transportation network.

Annual Statewide Industry Conferences

  

 

Nebraska Concrete Paving Association Workshop — January 

 

For over 40 years, NCPA Workshop provides updates in innovation, technical information, policy, and research affecting the concrete and aggregate industries in Nebraska. The Workshop features two full days of industry information and updates  for roadway managers, contractors, designers, suppliers, and other concrete professionals. Registration is hosted by NCPA.

 


Nebraska Asphalt Paving Conference & Paving Awards — February 

 

Since 1956, the Nebraska Asphalt Paving Conference has brought together industry professionals from all sectors of the asphalt paving industry. This annual event convenes roadway managers, designers, contractors, producers, suppliers, and installers from across Nebraska to explore the latest innovations, share technical knowledge, and strengthen professional networks.

 

The Nebraska Asphalt Paving Conference is held annually each February in Kearney, Nebraska, and includes the presentation of the industry’s Paving Awards, recognizing excellence and achievement within the asphalt industry. The program features technical sessions, research updates, policy discussions, and a keynote presentation relevant to today’s transportation challenges.

 

The conference is a collaborative effort between the Nebraska Department of Transportation (NDOT) and the Nebraska Chapter of the Associated General Contractors of America (AGC), offering attendees a comprehensive and relevant educational experience focused on advancing asphalt paving practices across the state.


Mid-States Highway-Railroad Safety Conference — June 

 

A national-level forum focused on improving safety at highway-rail crossings through collaboration among government, railroad, and industry partners. The two-day annual conference location changes yearly. 


Winter Maintenance Workshop - July

 

The Nebraska Winter Maintenance Workshop provides an informative and fun atmosphere to compete and learn. Workshop sessions focus on innovations by Nebraska Local Public Agency employees to improve safety, efficiency, and/or processes in any department work. Equipment operators, supervisors, and other participants have time to network and visit the event's vendors and sponsors.


NE LTAP partners with the Nebraska Chapter of the American Public Works Association to host competitive events include backhoe, loader, motor grader, skid steer and truck plow. Winners have the opportunity to represent Nebraska at a regional or national event with funding support from Nebraska APWA. Non-competitive parts of the workshop are covered by Workforce Development for employees of Nebraska LPAs.


MINK Conference — September 

 

Co-sponsored by the LTAPs of Missouri, Iowa, Nebraska, and Kansas, the MINK Conference brings together local public transportation agencies annually in St. Joseph, Missouri. Session topics cover all aspects of local road management including applicable FHWA perspectives. An annual highlight is an open discussion for attendees to ask questions and seek the expertise and experience of peers over dinner.


Local Roads Conference — October 

 

The Local Roads Conference is held each October in Rapid City, South Dakota and brings together local transportation agencies from the Upper Great Plains: Nebraska, South Dakota, North Dakota, Montana, Wyoming and Colorado.Session topics focus on local roads and, particularly, low volume roadway management and maintenance. A highlight is an extensive vendor hall with opportunities to seek products and services from a wider network.


  Biannual Conferences

 

Highway Safety Conference - March

 

The Highway Safety Conference, hosted by NDOT's Highway Safety Office, brings together transportation professionals, law enforcement, public health leaders, educators, policymakers, and safety advocates to advance efforts to reduce serious injuries and fatalities on Nebraska roadways. Through expert presentations, collaboration, and discussion of emerging safety initiatives, attendees explore topics including occupant protection, impaired and distracted driving prevention, traffic safety education, public engagement, legislation, and data-driven strategies that support safer communities across Nebraska.


Nebraska Local Bridge Conference — April 

 

The Nebraska Local Bridge Conference is a two-day event featuring presentations by industry leaders covering a range of topics from record keeping to maintenance and inspections. Typically, training or tech support for BrM users is available. The Bridge Conference is a biannual event happening in even-numbered years co-sponsored by NE LTAP and the NDOT Bridge Division.


 

Statewide Association and Partner Meetings

 

Nebraska Association of County Engineers, County Highway Superintendents & County Surveyors

 

County Superintendents and Engineers come together four times per year to exchange information, learn and network. The statewide summer meeting is entirely transportation-focused. The statewide winter meeting is a part of the larger NACO annual event. District meetings happen each spring and fall at regional sites. Nebraska Tribal Transportation Conference - March 

 

NE LTAP, the Nebraska Department of Transportation and the BIA Winnebago Agency co-host this event for participants to exchange strategies, needs, and resources among tribes and participating agencies. A smaller, more focused event, the agenda includes ample time for round tables and networking among participants. Registration for this event is by invitation. NDOT Internal and Partner Conferences

These events are primarily designed for NDOT staff and key agency partners.

 

Project Managers’ Conference - March

 

The Project Managers’ Conference is an annual NDOT professional development event that brings together project managers, staff, and key partners for internal training sessions, safety workshops, and operational updates. Sessions are designed to strengthen project delivery, improve coordination across divisions, and address seasonal priorities and emerging transportation needs throughout the year.

 

  

Nebraska User Group Conference — March 

 

The Nebraska User Group Conference is an annual, technical, and systems-focused event held at Nebraska Innovation Campus for NDOT staff and partner agencies. The conference provides a collaborative forum for users of NDOT systems and digital tools to share updates, discuss functionality improvements, and explore best practices in data, technology, and project delivery. Sessions typically include system demonstrations, workflow enhancements, troubleshooting discussions, and peer learning opportunities designed to improve efficiency and consistency across transportation programs statewide.

  

 

 

 

 


 

State Snow Roadeo - June

 

The NDOT Snowplow Roadeo is an annual skills competition that showcases the expertise, precision, and professionalism of Nebraska’s snowplow operators. Bringing together top teams from each of NDOT’s eight districts, the event challenges participants through vehicle inspections, written evaluations, and hands-on driving courses that simulate real-world winter maintenance conditions. More than a competition, the Snowplow Roadeo promotes safety, recognizes operational excellence, and reinforces the critical role snow and ice teams play in keeping Nebraska’s transportation system safe and reliable during winter weather events.
