Bus & Bus Facilities Program funds will be awarded competitively to assist in the financing of capital projects to replace, rehabilitate, purchase or lease buses and related equipment, and to rehabilitate, purchase, construct or lease bus-related facilities


Fiscal Year (FY) 2024 Notice of Funding Opportunity:

The U.S. Department of Transportation published a Notice of Funding Opportunity (NOFO) for $390 million in grant funding through the Bus & Bus Facilities discretionary grant program on February 8, 2024.


Eligible Applicants

  • Designated recipients that allocate funds to fixed route operators

  • State and local gov’t entities that operate fixed route bus service

  • Tribes


Eligible Projects

  • Capital projects to replace, rehabilitate, purchase, or lease buses, vans or related equipment

  • Capital projects to rehabilitate, purchase, construct or lease bus-related facilities


Program Objectives

  • Renew transit systems

  • Reduce greenhouse gas emissions from public transportation

  • Advance racial equity

  • Maintain and create good-paying jobs with a free and fair choice to join a union

  • Connect communities



  • $390M for FY2024

  • Max Fed share for purchasing/leasing buses is 85% of net project cost

  • Max Fed share for acquiring/installing/constructing equipment is 90% of net project cost
