Nebraska Statewide Transportation Plan 2040

 

Envisioning the Future

The purpose of the 2040 Statewide Transportation Plan, Nebraska’s Long-Range Transportation Plan (LRTP), was to create a vision for Nebraska’s transportation future and provide goals and strategies to work toward that vision. An LRTP helps NDOT plan for the big picture and inform strategic decisions related to our policies, programs and resource allocation.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

What is a long-range transportation plan?

The 2040 Statewide Transportation Plan is a vision for transportation development over the next 20 years.

This plan's intent is to help refine the state’s transportation needs and priorities as we look to the year 2040.

 

 

The LRTP is a multi-modal planning effort that builds upon the past and studies the present to help prepare for the challenges of the future. As a part of the planning process we:

 

  • Listened to what Nebraskans want for their transportation future
  • Identified influences – such as new technology, changes to the economy or workforce, or new modes of transportation – that are most likely to shape changes in transportation programs, policies, projects, organizational culture, or skills
  • Analyzed data to understand the extent and magnitude of how these influences will affect Nebraskans and NDOT
  • Considered ways that NDOT can prepare for and impact the future of transportation in Nebraska
  • Provided recommendations that guide us on what actions to take and when

NDOT conducted a variety of meetings, forums and other outreach activities with the public and key stakeholders leading to the statewide adoption of the 2040 Statewide Transportation Plan.

 

Work began in September 2019 and the plan was completed by early 2021.
