FAQs

Yes, except for six (6) potential overnight closures for bridge construction activities (dates are to be determined), at least one (1) lane of traffic in each direction will be maintained for the duration of the project. A temporary road and intersection will be constructed to maintain traffic while the overpass structure is being constructed.

Although US-77 will remain open to traffic throughout construction, single lane closures may need to be utilized at times. Delays can be expected during times that lane closures are in place.

No temporary lane closures will be allowed on US-77 on any day that there is a University of Nebraska home football game. The project contractor is required to have temporary lane closures removed by 6:00 PM, if not earlier, the day prior to the game, and cannot re-establish lane closures until after 9:00 AM on the day following the game.

An analysis was conducted and included anticipated impacts to right-of-way (ROW), construction costs, embankments within the floodway/floodplain, utility impacts, adjacent Section 4(f) (parkland) impacts, minimum design standards, and overall project corridor impacts related to future traffic flows and characteristics. All considerations influenced the preferred modification of closure of Old Cheney Rd at US-77.

A US-77 corridor study was completed based on future year 2050 land-use and traffic volume projections. This evaluation found that the elimination of an Old Cheney Rd connection or overpass did not produce unacceptable operations elsewhere in the study area. The added capacity to be provided at the Warlick and Pioneers interchanges would reduce projected delay on arterials and the US-77 freeway. Both Warlick Blvd and Pioneers Blvd are expected to carry a portion of current Old Cheney Rd traffic (which would be reduced due to the City of Lincoln's 14th / Warlick / Old Cheney project).

The Lincoln West Beltway project would create a continuous freeway for the efficient movement of people and goods. Bicycles may utilize any public street, roadway, highway, bike path, side path or sidewalk, with the exception of interstates or freeways; therefore, bicycles would not be permitted on the West Beltway upon completion. East/west non-motorized traffic would be accommodated at the Warlick and Pioneers interchanges. Routes for north/south non-motorized traffic may include, but are not limited to, SW 12th, S 14th, Jamaica North Trail, and others. Saltillo Road provides a direct connection from US-77 to the Jamaica North Trail.

Any updates made at this intersection would be designed and constructed through the City of Lincoln Transportation and Utilities Department (LTU). For the most up to date project information, you may visit lincoln.ne.gov/projects and search “South 14th”.

The project was designed to minimize impacts to Wilderness Park and access to Wilderness Park is not anticipated to be affected during construction or following completion of the projects.

Bicyclists and pedestrians were considered in the design. Sidewalks and side paths were included at Warlick Boulevard & Pioneers Boulevard interchanges to connect to future trail/bike route based on the Lincoln Bike Plan 2019.

Access to/from US-77 at Yankee Hill Rd and Old Cheney Rd will not be eliminated until construction of both interchanges is complete and they are open to traffic.

No, NDOT values the safety of the public and would require the contractor to coordinate with emergency services throughout the duration of construction. Access will be maintained throughout construction to the maximum extent possible.
