NDOT’s responsibilities include:
Per Nebraska State Statute 13-1204, the Nebraska Department of Transportation is the principal state agency responsible for coordinating public transportation activities in the state, and when requested, shall provide technical assistance to improve Nebraska’s public transportation system.
To meet the obligations set forth in state statute, the NDOT Transit Section is the pass through entity for Federal Transit Administration and State Transportation funds. As the direct grantee for federal funds, the Transit Section is responsible for project management oversight to ensure processes are in compliance with statutory, administrative and regulatory requirements. To meet the transportation needs of the general public as well as the elderly and disabled citizens in Nebraska, NDOT currently provides funding to approximately 120 public purpose organizations and private non-profit agencies.
